WEEKLY WORD

Written by Pastor Sue Lynch

THIS GOSPEL OF THE KINGDOM SHALL BE PREACHED!

Mark 1:14 “Jesus came to Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God.”

Jesus came to earth with a focused assignment: to preach the gospel of the kingdom of God and then give Himself for the salvation of mankind.  He never veered off of His assignment.  Satan could never manage to get Him distracted by the world, the flesh or what he could throw in His way.

Christian, do you know what the gospel of the kingdom is?  It is the good news that Christ came to show us the Father, His kingdom and how to live in it; how to receive it and let the kingdom live in us. He then commissioned His followers to “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature” Mark 16:15.  We can look at this command and say, “how can this be.  I am not called to be a missionary, yet my Lord has commanded His people to do this.”  The answer is simple and right before us.  We preach the gospel of the kingdom of God every day by the power of the Holy Spirit living in us.  As we literally go about our lives and are active in society, we are bringing the presence of Jesus wherever we go.  Whatever we do, Jesus should be seen through it all.  Our light should so shine before men that they should see our good works: “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven” Matthew 5:16.

What does this mean for you and me?  Simply put, live by what the Word of God teaches and let Jesus be Lord over all of your life.  Then as you eat, sleep, work, living out your life at church and in society; you are shining the light of the world, Jesus, to everyone you encounter.

Your values should be Jesus’ life of honesty, integrity; love for God and country.  Loving and helping the poor; loving the souls of mankind and telling them of the Savior’s sacrifice for them also.  Some are called to publically preach the gospel; others are called to go to foreign fields to teach the nations of who Christ is and what He came to do.  But you, beloved are called as well to preach the gospel of the kingdom of God on a daily basis as has been already stated.

Jesus made a definite statement when He declared that the gospel shall be preached!  Not other religious creeds and religious books; but the gospel of the kingdom of God.  Hatred for the Lord and His people; killing them and declaring they will be wiped off the earth will not stop the Holy Spirit in His people from preaching this gospel.  In fact the word of God says that the enemies of the Lord will be judged and dealt with by the living God.

Christian, don’t let the enemies of the kingdom of God silence you.  Live out the gospel each and every day.  Jesus is with you through the Holy Spirit within you.  Amen!
